Recent and current courses. They differ in subject, but each is built so that student work leaves the classroom: written for a reader, or shown to an audience.

Art history · grades 11 and 12

AP Art History, taught through Aby Warburg's Mnemosyne Atlas. Students arrange works from different centuries into constellations and follow the gestures and motifs that recur across them, and the arrangements accumulate over the year into an Atlas Book. Assessment runs through working forms rather than essays: auction catalogue entries, pitch packages, and a final submission-ready packet prepared for a destination the student chooses, such as a journal submission, a composition score, or an architecture portfolio.

Art · grade 10

A studio course. Every project begins with a written intention and a research page and ends in front of an audience. Most of my students write in English as an additional language, so the writing that surrounds the work (intentions, research, statements) is taught with the same care as the making.

Media studies

The Cambridge 9607 syllabus. The platforms students already use every day are treated as primary texts and studied with the same seriousness as film or print.

Art appreciation

An introductory course in looking at and talking about art. The lesson plans and materials are public in the teaching-materials repository.
